Embark on a transformative journey with our Awareness-Raising Walk, a program designed to illuminate minds and inspire change. The objective is clear: to shed light on epilepsy, dispel myths, and create an environment that fosters understanding and support. Join us as we stride towards a stigma-free future, spreading awareness about the challenges faced by those with epilepsy.
The National Epilepsy Week is a yearly unique event organized by CareEpilepsy Ethiopia to acknowledge and highlight the psychosocial, economic and healthcare challenges faced by people with epilepsy, their families and carers. This program will also give the opportunity to sponsors, partners and stakeholders to make a difference for people with epilepsy. It is also a platform to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and foster understanding about epilepsy within our community. Since its inception, this event has grown in scale and impact, reaching a diverse audience and creating positive change in perceptions surrounding epilepsy. This year, with the participation of about 100 amazing individuals, we triumphantly walked to raise epilepsy awareness and say no to stigma! Huge thanks to all our incredible sponsors for their support!
International Epilepsy Day is a key initiative that the epilepsy community will use to drive the implementation of the World Health Organisation’s [WHO] 10-year Intersectoral Global Action Plan on Epilepsy and other Neurological Disorders (2022-2031) or IGAP.
CareEpilepsy Ethiopia takes the month of February as Epilepsy Awareness Monday, an annual event dedicated to raising awareness and addressing the challenges faced by individuals with epilepsy and their families. Insufficient awareness about epilepsy and its origins contributes to social stigma, exclusion, and discrimination against individuals with epilepsy across various societal levels, such as workplaces, schools, and communities.
A vital clinical program addresses epilepsy complexities, influenced by comorbidities like HIV, the malaria-seizure link, and midwives' role in pregnancy, mental health, dementia, and Parkinson's. This integration enhances patient care and tackles multifaceted challenges in epilepsy care.
